Under-18 Team Bests Saint Mary's University in Collegiate Exhibition Action

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Kevin Labanc (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill.) each netted three goals, while John Hayden (Greenwich, Conn.) and Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied one goal and added three assists each, as the U.S. National Under-18 Team bested Saint Mary's University, 10-4, on Nov. 25.

Saint Mary's opened scoring when it was awarded a penalty shot after a Cardinal was tripped en route to the goal. SMU converted on its attempt to take a 1-0 lead over the U.S. Louis tied the game at 7:49 of the first frame. Hayden and Sean Malone (West Seneca, N.Y.) earned assists on the tally. Evan Allen (Sterling Heights, Mich.) gave Team USA the lead at 9:11. Kelleher and Michael McCarron (Macomb, Mich.) registered helpers on the goal. Kelleher put the U.S. up by two goals at 14:04 off of passes by McCarron and Gage Ausmus (East Grand Forks, Minn.). Labanc scored at 17:30 to further increase the U.S. advantage. Trevor Hamilton (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) collected assists on the marker. Malone and Hayden then connected with Louis before time expired on the period, sending Team USA to the locker room up 5-1.

The U.S. continued the scoring parade in the second stanza as Louis netted a goal at 2:13. Kelleher and Hayden assisted. Motte found Labanc for Team USA's seventh tally at 4:31. Hayden and Labanc added to the lead at 6:40 and 9:29 respectively, giving the U.S. a 9-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Malone and Hamilton assisted on the Hayden score, while Motte and Ausmus helped Labanc.

Allen made it 10-1 after his score just 22 seconds into the final frame. Kelleher and Keaton Thompson (Devils Lake, N.D.) earned assists. The Cardinals scored three goals late in the third period to close the gap with Team USA, but the lead proved insurmountable and the U.S. won handily, 10-4.

Thatcher Demko (San Diego, Calif.) and Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn.) combined to make 10 saves in the win for Team USA, while Andy Scheib and Christian Gaffy turned aside 37 shots in the loss for Saint Mary's University.
