U.S. National Under-18 Team Clips Cedar Rapids, 4-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill.) scored two goals, as the U.S. National Under-18 Team clipped the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 4-3, on Nov. 18, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

Team USA scored first at 10:43 of the opening frame when Louis wristed a shot that deflected off of Chris Birdsall's outstretched glove and into the net. John Hayden (Greenwich, Conn.) collected the lone assist on the tally. Connor Clifton (Matawan, N.J.) doubled the U.S. lead with 25 seconds left in the period when he teed up a shot that trickled under Birdsall's pads. Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) and Dawson Cook (Cadillac, Mich.) earned assists on the play.

Cedar Rapids struck back at 7:23 of the middle stanza to cut the Team USA lead in half, 2-1. Louis tallied his second goal of the contest at 9:34, snapping a quick, sharp-angled shot past Birdsall. Hayden and Sean Malone (West Seneca, N.Y.) collected assists on the marker. Motte notched the eventual game-winning goal at 14:58, taking a cross-ice pass and burying the puck, top shelf for the score. Cook and Kevin Labanc (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered helpers on the play.

The RoughRiders tallied two goals in the third period, but the U.S. held on to claim the 4-3 victory. Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn.) made 16 saves in the win for Team USA, while Birdsall kicked out 44 shots in the loss for the RoughRiders.
