U.S. National Under-18 Team Bests Chicago, 7-3

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - Evan Allen (Sterling Heights, Mich./0-3) and Anthony Louis (Winfield, Ill./2-1) had three points each, as the U.S. National Under-18 Team bested the Chicago Steel, 7-3, at The Edge Ice Arena on Nov. 17.

Louis opened scoring for Team USA on the power play at 13:33 of the first frame. Trevor Hamilton (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and Sean Malone (West Seneca, N.Y.) assisted on the goal. The U.S. struck again just 11 seconds later when Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) found the back of the net. Dawson Cook (Cadillac, Mich.) and Kevin Labanc (Staten Island, N.Y.) collected assists on the play.

The U.S. lead was extended by Malone at 10:30 of the second period. John Hayden (Greenwich, Conn.) and Louis collected assists on the goal. Chicago responded with back-to-back tallies, one scored with the man advantage, to pull within one goal, 3-2. Keaton Thompson (Devils Lake, N.D.) notched the second special teams marker for Team USA at 15:04, putting Team USA up 4-2 heading into the second intermission. Allen and Steven Santini recorded helpers on Thompson's goal.

In a third period marred by penalties, the U.S. tallied three straight goals to pull away from the Steel. Will Butcher (Sun Prairie, Wis.) scored 52 seconds into the final frame on the power play, with Allen and Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) earning assists. Hayden netted the sixth U.S. goal of the contest at 10:53 and Louis followed with his second power play tally at 14:46. Hamilton earned his second assist on Hayden's tally, while Allen and Kelleher helped on Louis' score. Chicago scored a late goal at 17:28, but the U.S. lead proved insurmountable and Team USA skated away with a 7-3 victory.

Thatcher Demko (San Diego, Calif.) turned aside 19 shots in the win for Team USA, while Alex Sakellaropoulos made 30 saves for Chicago in the loss.
