U18s Top Sioux Falls Stampede, 4-1

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) delivered 29 saves in the U.S. National Under-18 Team’s 4-1 victory at USA Hockey Arena over the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday.

The U18s’ overall record is 31-10-2-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL-T) and Team USA’s USHL record improved to 17-14-2-3.

Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) opened up the scoring 2:28 into play when he fired a backhanded shot from the left circle that slid under the pads of Sioux Falls netminder Alex Calvaruso.

Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) doubled the lead when he deflected a Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) shot from the point with 4:12 left in the opening frame.

Sioux Falls closed the gap by one 6:04 into the second period, before Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) extended Team USA’s lead to 3-1 when he capitalized off a pass from Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) with a one-timer.

Team USA successfully killed off two penalties in the final frame before Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) concluded the scoring when he tallied a power-play goal with 3:33 remaining off a feed from Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.), accounting for the 4-1 final.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team takes the ice again tomorrow night (Feb. 16) at Fox Valley Ice Arena in a 7:05 p.m. ET matchup against the Chicago Steel. The game can be stream live at HockeyTV.com.

NOTES: Team USA was outshot 30-27, went 1-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
