Under-17 Five Nations Game 4

The U.S. National Under-17 Team faces Sweden with first place on the line in its final game of the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament at 6 a.m. ET on Sunday in Tranås, Sweden.

The U17s hold a 2-0-1-0 record (W-OTW-L-OTL) through their first two games of the tournament, which included a 7-0 win over Finland in the opener and a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic on Friday.

Matchup Preview

 USA VS. SWEDEN 

The U.S. National Under-17 Team faces off against host Sweden in its final game of the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament at 6 a.m. ET on Saturday in Tranås, Sweden. 

The U17s hold a 2-0-1-0 record (W-OTW-L-OTL) through their first three games of the tournament, which included shutout victories over Finland (7-0) and the Czech Republic (3-0). 

Team USA sits in third place entering the final day of the event, but with an opportunity to take home first place with a win over Sweden. 

Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) delivered his second shutout of the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament as the U.S. National Under-17 Team topped the Czech Republic by a 3-0 final in its most recent game Friday. 

Commesso, who owns three shutouts across all competitions, stopped all 19 shots for Team USA to earn the win. The Boston University commit has stopped 63 of 65 shots in the first three games of the Five Nations Tournament. 

Ty Smilanic's (Elizabeth, Colo.) second-period tally, a wrist shot from the right circle represented his second goal and fifth point of the event. Dylan Peterson (Roseville, Calif.) and Eamon Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) picked up assists on the rush. 

Smilanic (2-4-6) holds the team lead with six points across three games at the Five Nations Tournament. Peterson sits second with five points (1-4-5). 

Daniyal Dzhaniyev (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas) both registered their first goals of the tournament with third-period tallies to widen the lead. 

Sweden's National Under-17 Team enters the final day of the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in first place with a 2-1-0-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) record across its first three games. 

The Swedes collected a 7-1 win over Finland in their opener before a 3-2 shootout win over Russia on Thursday and a 4-1 victory against the Czech Republic in its most recent game Saturday. 

Emil Andrae (2-2-4) and Helge Grans (0-4-4) pace Sweden with four points apiece across three games at the tournament. Goaltenders Calle Clang and Hugo Ollas have registered an impressive .965 combined save percentage between the pipes. 

LAST TIME VS. SWEDEN ... 

The current group of U17s has yet to face Sweden during the 2018-19 season, although both sides competed at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Sweden captured bronze at the event, while Team USA finished third in Group A during preliminary-round action. 

Team USA last faced Sweden at the Under-17 level as part of the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The NTDP's 2001 birth-year group earned a 5-1 win in a quarterfinal matchup behind a 30-save performance from Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.).
