Ty Smilanic (Elizabeth, Colo.) opened scoring for the U17s at the 11 minute, 5 second mark of the first period after Jake Sanderson (Whitefish, Mont.) forced a turnover in the offensive zone. Smilanic corralled the loose puck in front of Steel goaltender Reilly Herbst and finished in tight for his team-leading 15th goal of the season.

A strong first-period effort from Aidan Campbell (Cranberry Twp., Penn.) helped Team USA maintain its 1-0 lead into the break.

The U17s doubled their lead in the second frame when Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) found the back of the net on the power play. Amid a scramble in front of the net, Tuch collected the puck outside of the crease and banked it in for his ninth goal of the season.

However, a pair of Steel goals in the back half of the frame leveled the score after 40 minutes.

Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) restored the one-goal lead for Team USA when he slipped behind the defense on a short-handed rush and elevated the go-ahead tally past Herbst. Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas) earned the lone assist on the play.

The short-handed effort marked Bordeleau's 10th of the season, which ranks second only to Smilanic's team-best 15 goals.

Robert Mastrosimone, who suited up for four games with the U.S. National Under-18 Team in November, found the equalizer for the Steel with 6:38 to play.

Chicago's Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored the game-winner in overtime with a wrist shot from the right circle.

Campbell, in his first start with the NTDP, stopped 21 of 25 shots in the loss.
