GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Matthew Beniers (Hingham, Mass.) and Hunter Stand (Anchorage, Alaska) each recorded goals in the U.S. National Under-17 Team's 5-2 loss vs the Green Bay Gamblers on Jan. 18, at Resch Center.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team’s record is 13-15-2-2, and Team USA’s overall record in USHL play is now 13-12-1-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL).
The Green Bay Gamblers started the scoring early, 30 seconds into the game when Benito Posa scored on a backhand from the right hashmark gaining a 1-0 lead.
Around the halfway mark of the first period, Tyler Spott scored for the Gamblers to secure a two-goal lead with a wrister from the top of the left circle.
Team USA fought back to tie the game a 2-2, in the second period. Beniers scored his eighth goal of the year, potting home a rebound at 1:09 in front of Green Bay goaltender Evan Fear. Landon Slaggert drew the lone assist with a shot from the right circle.
Strand tied the game at twos 4:49 into the second, scoring on a rebound off the right post after Fear made the original stop on Dylan Peterson's (Roseville, Calif.).
Green Bay captain Nick Leitner restored the Gamblers lead with 1:28 left, ending the middle frame with a Team USA one-goal deficit.
Within 19 seconds in the third period, Green Bay’s Mylymok and Murtazin each score a goal, ending the game 5-2.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team faces the Green Bay Gamblers tomorrow night, Jan. 19, at 8:05 p.m. ET at the Resch Center. The U17s will return to USA Hockey Arena on Monday, Jan. 21, for a 2 p.m. ET matchup against the Chicago Steel.
