PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Matthew Beniers (Hingham, Mass.) and Brett Berard (E. Greenwich, R.I.) scored in the U.S. National Under-17 Team's 8-2 loss to the Tri-City Storm Friday night at USA Hockey Arena.

Tri-City got on the board first when they snapped the puck from the high slot and past U.S. goaltender Carter McPhail (Fenton, Mich.), before they doubled the lead with 8:16 left in the period.

Box Score

Team USA possessed multiple scoring chances throughout the first half of the middle stanza but was unable to get on the board. One of its best opportunities came at 11:59 on the clock when Connor Kelley (Maple Grove, Minn.) fed the puck to Jacob Truscott (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) to rip a one-timer from the point, but was unable to beat Tri-City goaltender Isiah Saville.

Beniers put Team USA on the board with 9:20 left in the second period when he intercepted a drop pass in the slot from Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and fired a wrist shot past Saville.

Tri-City scored a goal and two power-play goals in the final five minutes of the period, giving them a 5-1 lead entering the final frame.

The Storm tallied again in the first minute of the third period to increase the lead to 6-1. Berard scored 6:32 into the third when Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) took the puck behind the net and passed it in the slot to Berard.

Tri-City concluded the scoring with a pair of goals at 10:29 and 2:07 to account for the 8-2 final.
