U17s Fall to Waterloo Black Hawks, 5-3

Slaggert records two points; U17s return to action in Four Nations Cup Dec. 11

PLYMOUTH, Mich. --  Chase Yoder (Fairview, Texas.), Landon Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.), and Jacob Truscott (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) netted goals in Team USA’s 5-3 loss to the Waterloo Black Hawks at USA Hockey Arena.

The U17s record is now 7-13-0-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL), and Team USA’s combined record in USHL play is 7-9-0-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL). Waterloo’s record improves to 12-5-3-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL).

Waterloo opened scoring at 7:33 of the first period and took a two goal lead just over 5 minutes later. With 20 seconds remaining in the opening frame, NTDP Alum Joey Cassetti scored to seal a 3-0 Waterloo lead entering the first intermission.

Highlights

Yoder put Team USA on the board 23 seconds into the second period on a breakaway off a stretch pass from Brock Faber (Fairview, Texas).

Noah Grannan (Germantown, Wis.) came into the net to relieve Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) 11:26 into the second.

With just under four minutes remaining in the second, Waterloo secured another three-goal lead. Slaggert gave Team USA its second goal of the game,  scoring with 1:03 left in the period. The play began when Matthew Beniers (Hingham, Mass.) collected the puck in the right corner and fed the puck to Slaggert in the slot, who finished with a wrist shot past Waterloo goaltender Jared Moe.

 Waterloo scored its fifth goal 7:21 into the final stanza, taking a three-goal lead.

With 5:08 remaining in the game Truscott scored his first goal with the NTDP, assisted by Brett Berard (E. Greenwich, R.I.).

In 29:34 minutes of play Commesso saved 9 of 12 shots and in 27:32 minutes Grannan saved 11 of 13 shots.

The U17s return to action Tuesday, Dec. 11 for the Four Nations Tournament at USA Hockey Arena against Slovakia. NOTES: Team USA went 0-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill ... Landon Slaggert was awarded the third star of the game and Jacob Truscott was awarded Team USA's hardest worker.
