U18s Win Sixth Straight; Down Dubuque, 7-4

Seven different players scored for the U18s in its sixth straight victory

DUBUQUE, Iowa --  Seven different players scored goals for the US National Under-18 Team in its 7-4 win against the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday night at Mystique Ice Center.

Drew Helleson (Farmington, Minn), Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y.), Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.), Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.), Michael Gildon (Plano, Texas), Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass), and Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) all found the back of the net in the victory.

Team USA got on the scoreboard first with a short handed goal by Helleson, off a feed from Sean Farrell (Hopkinton, Mass). Midway through the first frame, Team USA capitalized on a power play with a goal that was finished off by Weight after a scramble in front of the net, causing Team USA to enter the second period up by two.

Dubuque answered 11 seconds into the second period, cutting the lead in half. A minute later, Vlasic capitalized on the powerplay off a feed from Judd Caulfield (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Zegras, regaining the two goal lead.

Dubuque scored at the 11:24 mark of the second period, putting them within one; however, with 24 seconds remaining in the second period, Lindmark tipped in a Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) shot entering the second intermission up 4-2.

One minute into the final frame, Team USA capitalized on a power play for the fourth time from a poke by Gildon off a shot from Hughes. Boldy buried one off of a feed from Weight and Caulfield at 4:47 into the period and Zegras followed it up with assists from Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) and Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) a minute later, securing a five-goal lead.

Dubuque answered midway through the third period, and with 16 seconds left they netted one on the power play, to bring the game to its final of 7-4.

Team USA was 4-for-7 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) stopped 25 of 29 shots faced to earn his sixth victory of the season.

The U18s return to USA Hockey Arena on Wednesday (Nov. 21) for a 90’s Night Thanksgiving Eve showdown against tenth-ranked Bowling Green State University.
