Highlights

Team USA is 3-0-0-0 in the tournament.

Team USA controlled play in the first period, outshooting Switzerland, 15-3.

Farrell was awarded a penalty shot at 14:07 of the first period when he was hooked by Swiss defender Nino Russo while moving in for a shot. On the penalty shot, Farrell skated in the right hash mark and shot forehand on Swiss goaltender Sascha Ruppelt. Ruppelt made the save, getting his left pad on the shot.

However, 23 seconds later, Hughes — the tournament’s leading scorer — gave the U18s a 1-0 lead with his sixth goal of the tournament. Zegras fed the puck from the right goal line in the Swiss zone to Hughes in front of the net just outside the blue ice. Hughes made no mistake at 14:37. Caufield drew the second assist on the goal.

The U18s outshot Switzerland by a 19-4 margin in the second period.

Caufield and Hughes joined forces again in the second period to extend the Team USA lead to 3-0.  Hughes set up Caufield twice — at 5:20, when he scored with a quick backhand shot inside the left post and at 7:46, when Caufield snapped a shot, all alone, from the left circle at the back door.

Hughes set up Team USA’s fourth goal, a power-play marker scored by Thrun at 12:31.  Hughes started the play with a pass from the right circle in the Swiss zone to Gildon at the right goal line.  Gildon passed to Thrun below the hash marks, who made no mistake with the shot.

The U18s put the game away with four goals in the third period.

Zegras scored at 9:33 and Caufield completed his hat trick forty seconds later to increase the Team USA lead to 6-0 at 10:13.  On the goal, Caufield finished a three-way passing play between Zegras at the left circle and Hughes at the left goal line and scored on a shot at the right post.

Rolston scored his first goal of the tournament goal from the lower rim of the right circle at 12:51.  Zegras scored his second goal of the period to extend the Team USA lead to 8-0 at 15:54, taking Warren’s pass from the left circle and scoring with a hard shot from the right dot.

Team USA outshot Switzerland, 45-13 in total.

Goaltender Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) made 12 saves on 13 shots to pick up his second victory of the tournament.

The U18s look to secure a first-place finish at the Under-18 Five Nations Tournament on Sunday when they face Finland at 3 p.m. / 9 a.m. (local/ET).
