Zegras Tallies Twice As U18s Down Dartmouth, 6-4

Trevor Zegras scored twice and Jack Hughes notched 3 assist in a 6-4 victory against Dartmouth College

HANOVER, N.H.  – Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) scored twice and Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) scored the game-winner at 11:57 of the third period for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in its 6-4 victory against Dartmouth College on Monday night at Thompson Arena.

With the victory, Team USA is now 8-2-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) overall and 4-3-0 (W-L-T) in NCAA play this season.

Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) recorded the primary assists on the Zegras tallies and Caufield’s game-winner for his 14th, 15th, and 16th points of the season while Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) recorded his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) and Sean Farrell (Hopkinton, Mass.) also scored for Team USA in the victory.

Dartmouth opened the scoring at 10:16 of the first before Zegras tallied his first of the night off a feed from Hughes just 1:26 later to tie the game.

Dartmouth outshot Team USA 11-7 in the first period but neither team was able to break through against so the score stay knotted at 1-1 following 20 minutes of play.

Zegras took just 1:23 into the second period to score his second goal off the rush. Hughes earned his second assist of the night. Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) also earned a helper on the goal.

Dartmouth tied the game at 10:39. Following the game-tying goal, Boldy and Rolston scored goals 36 seconds apart to give Team USA a 4-2 lead. Boldy’s goal, scored at 14:24 was assisted by Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.) and Thrun while Rolston’s unassisted goal was scored at 15:00.

Dartmouth added another tally at 17:40 to cut the Team USA lead to 4-3 after 40 minutes of play.

Dartmouth scored an early third period goal (2:42) to tie the game before Caufield picked up his first NCAA goal of the season and the eventual game-winner at 11:57. Hughes pick up his third assist of the night on the play.

Farrell scored his first goal of the season at 14:32 off a feed from Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) to bring the game to its final of 6-4.

Team USA goaltenders Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) and Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) split time in net. Knight got the start and stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced while Rowe appeared in relief and made 14 saves to pick up his first NCAA victory of the season.

Team USA went 0-3 on the power play but didn’t take a single penalty for the second time this season.

The U18s return to action this Saturday (Oct. 27) when they return to USHL play with a road matchup against cross-state rival Muskegon in a 7:15 p.m. ET matchup at L.C. Walker Arena.
