BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Forward Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) scored his fifth goal of the season as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to Ferris State University, 3-1, at R.L. Ewigleben Sports Complex on Saturday night.
With the loss, Team USA falls to 4-1-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the season and (0-1-0) (W-L-T) in NCAA play.
Team USA opened the scoring when Boldy netted his team-leading fifth goal at 3:33 of the first period. Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) and Cam York (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) earned assists on the goal.
Ferris State added a power-play goal late in the first period to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
The Bulldogs took the lead late in the second period and held a 2-1 advantage into the final period of play.
Ferris State added a shorthanded goal at 5:42 of the third period to bring the game to its final of 3-1.
Team USA outshot Ferris State 47-17 in the game.
Team USA goaltender Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) made 24 saves in his first collegiate appearance.
The U18s are back in action tomorrow as they travel to South Bend, Indiana to face the University of Notre Dame in a 5:07 p.m. ET matchup at Compton Family Ice Arena.
