U17s Fall to Madison Capitols 2-1 in Shootout

U17s conclude home-opening week with 1-1 record

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Dylan Peterson (Roseville, Calif.) scored and Drew Commesso (Norwell, Mass.) made 42 saves, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Madison Capitols in a shootout, 2-1, in their second season matchup at USA Hockey Arena.

The U17s are 4-1-0-1. Madison is now 1-3-0-0. The combined Team USA record in USHL play is now 3-0-0-1 to start the season.

Both teams exchanged scoring opportunities throughout the opening frame, but neither team was able to gain the advantage. U17 goaltender Commesso stopped all 12 shots faced.

Team USA got on the board 7:16 into the second period when Dylan Peterson (Roseville, Calif.) capitalized during a net-front scramble. Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) and Jacob Truscott (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) were credited with assists on the play.

Madison netted the equalizer with 46 seconds left in the second frame, leaving the game locked at 1-1 entering the final stanza.

Team USA fought hard in the third, generating multiple scoring opportunities with 10 shots on net, but was unable to tally the go-ahead goal.

Commesso stood tall throughout overtime, stopping all 6 shots faced, but Team USA ultimately fell 2-1 in the shootout.

Team USA went 0-1 on the power play and 3-0 on the penalty kill. Commesso stopped 42 of 44 shots on goal.

The U17s will travel to New Hope, Minn. to take on the Minnesota Elite League next weekend (Oct. 13-14) and will return to action at USA Hockey Arena, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. ET against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Tickets are available for this game and all Team USA games at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
