U17s Fall to Chicago, 6-2 in Game 2

The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Chicago Steel, 6-2 this afternoon in Game 2 of its Eastern Conference Semifinal series. The series is now tied 1-1 as it heads to Fox Valley Ice Arena for Games 3 and 4.

Chicago opened scoring at 9:51 of the first period. The Steel’s Samuel Bucek intercepted a Team USA pass in the slot and sent it to the back of the net.

Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) tied the game 1-1 at 2:46 of the second period. After a scrum in front of the net Boldy pushed the puck in with help from Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.).

Highlights

The Steel netted three unanswered goals at the second to have a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Chicago added a fifth goal early in the third period before Team USA got one back.

Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y.) collected a rebound at the right side of the net at 9:18 of the third period and put it in while on the power play. Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) picked up the assist.

Chicago’s Bucek netted his second of the game to give the Steel a 6-2 advantage.

Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) and Josh Graziano  (Williamsville, N.Y.) combined for  35 saves in the loss while Chicago’s Oskar Autio finished with 43 saves.

Team USA travels to Geneva, Illinois for Game 3 and Game 4 on Thursday (April 26) and Friday (April 27). Puck drop for both games are set for 7:05 pm CT.
