The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 5-4 tonight in its regular season finale.
Muskegon opened scoring early capitalizing on a breakaway at 2:35 of the first period.
The Lumberjacks extended its lead 2-0 at 18:15 of the first.
Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) put the U17s on the board at 1:06 of the second period. Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) sent the puck to Zegras at the left circle who sent a wrister over the blocker of Muskegon’s Keegan Karki. Drew Helleson (Farmington, Minn.) also picked up an assist on the goal.
Erik Middendorf (Scottsdale, Ariz.) pulled the U17s within one at 15:57 of the second knocking the puck out of the air. John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) and Judd Caulfield (Grand Forks, N.D.) picked up the assists.
Muskegon netted one at 19:32 of the second period to regain a two-goal lead heading into the third period.
Marshall Warren (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) lifted the puck into the net at 1:45 of the third period with help from Boldy and Beecher.
Muskegon made it 5-3 at 4:13 of the third.
Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) tipped Helleson’s shot from the point into the net at 9:58 of the third period.
Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) collected 25 saves.
