The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 5-4 tonight in a shootout at Mystique Ice Center.
Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) opened scoring at the 53-second mark of the first taking a quick shot from the high slot. Marshall Warren (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) had the lone helper on the goal.
Dubuque answered back at 2:04 to make it 1-1.
Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) put the puck into the net at 6:44 of the first from the doorstep. Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.) added an assist.
Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y.) cleaned up a big rebound at 17:34 to send the 17s to the intermission up, 3-1.
Dubuque netted two in the second period to even the game, 3-3.
After Team USA was called for too many men, John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) skated the puck up the left side, and netted it, on the backhand, at 10:38 of the third period.
NTDP alumni Josh Maniscalco tied the game once again for the Fighting Saints at 11:22 of the third.
After a scoreless overtime, Rolston netted the only goal for either team in the fifth round of the shootout to win the game for the U17s, 5-4.
Jonathan Mor (Highland Park, Ill.) made 34 saves in the win.
The U17s and Dubuque are set for a rematch tomorrow night (April 7) at 8 p.m. ET.
