The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Chicago Steel Sunday afternoon, 9-6 despite a hat trick performance from Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.).
The Steel opened scoring with two early goals at 2:04 and 8:53 of the first period.
Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.) put the U17s on the board at 11:04 of the first to make it, 2-1. Drew Helleson (Farmington, Minn.) and Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) picked up assists on the goal.
The Steel netted another one before John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) sent the puck in from the left circle with help from Sean Farrell (Hopkinton, Mass.).
After two more from Chicago, Rolston netted his first of the game and third goal of the weekend to make it 5-3.
Zegras skated the puck in from the blue line and sent a wrister past the Steel’s Justin Robbins at 19:44 of the second. Rolston and Erik Middendorf (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had the assists on the U17s fourth goal.
The Steel netted two more early in the third to make it a game, 8-4.
Zegras skated the puck around the net and sent it to Roslton out front who tapped it in from the door step.
Chicago scored one more before Rolston completed the hat-trick at 19:53 of the third period.
Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) finished the game with 25 saves while Chicago’s Robbins had 28 saves.
The U17s are back in action on Saturday, March 31 at Youngstown at 3 p.m. ET.
