The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Central Illinois Flying Aces, 9-3 Friday night at Grossinger Motors Arena behind a four-point night from Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) and a 24-save night from Drew DeRidder (Fenton, Mich.). With the win, DeRidder is still perfect in USHL play with a 14-0-0 record.
Judd Caulfield (Grand Forks, N.D.) opened scoring early for the U.S. at the 2:46 mark of the first.
Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.) added another for Team USA at the 7:06 mark with help from Rolston.
Rolston extended the U17s lead, 3-0 at 16:06 sending the puck into the top corner from the right circle.
John Beecher (Elmira, N.Y.) added another to send the U17s into the first intermission up, 4-0.
Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) opened the second period quickly with a goal just 25 seconds in.
Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y.) sent the puck into the net from the slot over the Central Illinois’ goaltender at 5:09 of the second period.
John Farinacci (Chatham, N.J.) gave the U17s a 7-0 lead at the 5:37 mark of the second period.
Rolston netted his second of the game at 10:25 of the second period, making it 8-0.
Central Illinois netted three to end the second.
Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) netted the lone goal of the third period for a final score of, 9-3.
The U17s have a rematch with the Flying Aces tomorrow night (March 24) at Grossinger Motors Arena at 8 p.m. ET.
