The U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated the Central Illinois Flying Aces, 7-4 tonight at USA Hockey Arena. Six players had multi-point nights.
Michael Gildon (Plano, Texas) opened scoring early for Team USA after putting the puck in the net between the legs of Flying Aces’ Zach Stejskal at 2:23 of the first period. Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) and Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) picked up assists on the goal.
Erik Middendorf (Scottsdale, Ariz.) extended the U17s lead 2-0 at 13:02 of the first before Central Illinois came within one at 13:47.
The U17s pulled ahead in the second period netting five.
Domenick Fensore (Thornwood, N.Y.) opened the period’s scoring at 6:25 with his first USHL goal of the season.
Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) led the way with two goals at 7:17 and 16:23 of the middle frame.
Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y) netted the eventual game-winner at 14:19 of the second period. Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) also had goal in the second.
Central Illinois netted a goal at 6:44 of the second and two in the third period for a 7-4 final.
Jonathan Mor (Highland Park, Ill.) and Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) combined for 21 saves in the win. The Flying Aces’ Zach Stejskal and Ryan Snowden combined for 32 saves on the night.
The U17s are back in action next Saturday (March 3) when the first-place Omaha Lancers come to USA Hockey Arena.
