U17s Fall to Lincoln, 4-3.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Lincoln Stars, 4-3 Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena.

At 13:33 of the first period, Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) sent the puck across the ice to Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) who sent a one-timer past the blocker of Lincoln’s Tomas Vomacka. Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) picked up the secondary assist on the play.

Lincoln tied the game at 16:05 of the first on a goal from Devlin McCabe.

Turcotte sent a centering pass to Danny Weight (Lattintown, N.Y.) who put the puck past the blocker of Vomacka to give the U17s a 2-1 lead 29 seconds into the second period.

Highlights

Weight skated the puck at the blue line and sent a wrister to the net at 9:21 of the third period to give Team USA a 3-2 lead. Henry Thrun  (Southborough, Mass.) recorded an assist on the goal.

The Stars tied the game and took a 4-3 lead in a 12 second span in the third period to seal the win.

Team USA’s Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) recorded 24 saves while Lincoln’s Vomacka recorded 32 saves.

The U17s take a break from USHL action as they head to Finland to skate in the U17 Five Nations Tournament. They return to league action on Saturday, Feb.24 as they host the Central Illinois Flying Aces. Tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
