Turcotte Nets Two, U17s Fall to Lincoln 5-3

The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Lincoln Stars, 5-3 despite a two-goal performance from Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.).

Lincoln came out strong scoring three goals in the first frame.

Turcotte put the U17s on the board at 15:57 of the first period. Case McCarthy (Clarence Center, N.Y.) sent the puck to center ice where Turcotte corralled it, skated it to the front of the net, and around the pad of Lincoln’s Tomas Vomacka shorthanded.

Lincoln added two more goals in the second to lead, 5-1 heading into the final frame.

Highlights

Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.) netted Team USA’s second goal of the game at 9:50 of the third period on a shot form the high slot over the glove of Vomacka. Danny Weight (Lattingtown, N.Y.) picked up the lone assist on the play.

Turcotte netted his second of the game at 19:05 of the third on the power play, banging home a rebound from Weight’s initial shot. Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) also added an assist on the play.

Team USA’s Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) and Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) combined for 32 saves. Lincoln’s Vomacka recorded 31 saves.

The U17s and Lincoln are set for a rematch tomorrow night (Saturday, Feb. 3) at USA Hockey Arena at 7p.m. ET. Tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
