The U.S. National Under-18 Team scored three unanswered goals to defeated the Madison Capitols Friday 3-1 during their matchup at Bob Suter Ice Arena.
With the win the U18s are 21-13-0-3 (W-L-OTL-SOL) overall and 11-2-0-0 in USHL regular season play this year.
The Madison Capitals scored the lone goal in the first with 17:55 left in the period.
The U18s answered with two goals of their own in the second period. Erik Middendorf (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored USAs first nine seconds into the period. Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) picked up an assist. With 17:40 left in the second Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) gave the U18s the lead. Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) and Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich) added assists on the play.
Ty Emberson (Eau Claire, Wis.) extended the U18s lead in the third by adding a goal of his own. Jake Wise (Reading, Mass.) and Jonathan Gruden tallied assists.
Jonathan Mor (Highland Park, Ill.) made 18 saves.
The U18s return to action tomorrow night, Saturday February 3, to finish out their series with the Madison Capitols. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET.
