Caufield Earns Fourth Hat Trick; U17s down Lumberjacks 10-1

Cole Caufield earns his fourth hat trick and 16 different players recorded points in 10-1 victory

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team scored five goals in the first period and went on to defeat the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 10-1, in a USHL game played Saturday night before 2,756 at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon.

The U17s improve to 27-7-0-0 and have won seven games in a row (all in the USHL).

Team USA is in first place in the Eastern Conference with a record 22-9-0-1 in the USHL and has won 10 games in a row. Muskegon is 17-15-1-1 and had a two game winning streak snapped. 

16 differently players scored points for the U17s.

The U17s scored all five of their first period goals on low shots that were redirected.  

Ryder Rolston (Birmingham, Mich.) started the scoring at 1:55, from Drew Helleson (Farmington, Minn.) and Alex Vlasic (Wilmette, Ill.); Sean Farrell (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored at 11:16 from Henry Thrun (Southborough, Mass.); Michael Gildon (Plano, Texas) scored at 11:51 from Patrick Moynihan (Millis, Mass.) and Cam York (Anaheim Hills, Calif.); Rolston scored his second of the night at 13:03 from Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) and Fensore; Owen Lindmark (Naperville, Ill.) completed the scoring at 14:46, from Gildon and York.

The U17s were also strong on the power play, going 6-for-8 with the man advantage.

Team USA extended a 5-1 first period lead to 7-1 with two second period goals. Alex Turcotte (Island Lake, Ill.) set up Boldy at the hashmarks at 13:59 and Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) finished a 5-on-3 power play with goal with a hard shot from the left circle at 19:40.

Caufield scored twice in the third period to complete the hat trick and Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) completed the scoring at 19:13.

Shots on goal favored Team USA 38-36.

The last time the U17s scored 10 goals in USHL play happened earlier this year on October 7, 2017 in a 10-5 win in Chicago.

The U17s are back in action next Friday and Saturday at USA Hockey Arena, hosting the Lincoln Stars. Game time on Friday and Saturday is 7 p.m. ET. Tickets for all NTDP games can be found at USAHockeyNTDP.com/Tix.
