The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell Friday night to the Youngstown Phantoms 4-2.
Josh Maniscalco (Perkiomenville, Pa.) wristed one in from the blue line to put the U17s up early at 2:34 mark of the first period.
Youngstown tied it at one on the power play at 5:11 of the first period.
The Phantoms added two tallies in the second to make it 3-1 heading into the final frame.
Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhees, N.J.) pulled the U17s within one at the 4:21 mark of the third period after sending the puck in from the left circle. Jake Wise (North Andover, Mass.) and Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich.) picked up assists on the play.
The Phantoms added an empty net goal to secure the game.
USA's goaltender Anthony Yamnitsky (North Royalton, Ohio) had 23 saves in his NTDP debut while Youngtown’s Ivan Kulbakov recorded 20 saves.
The U17s close out its USHL schedule tomorrow night in Youngstown at 7:05 p.m. ET.
