The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell 3-1, Friday night to the Bloomington Thunder in USHL play.
Bloomington opened the scoring at 4:32 of the first period sending the puck in from the right circle. They added another from the left circle at 9:54 of the first frame.
The U17s had a chance in the second period when Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.) had a shorthanded breakaway but was ultimately denied by Thunder goaltender Gabriel Mollot-Hill.
The Thunder extended their lead to three at 9:28 of the third period.
At 13:03 of the third period Skyler Brind’Amour (Raleigh, N.C.) put home a K’Andre Miller (Hopkins, Minn.) shot to put the U17s on the board. Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) also picked up an assist on the goal.
Team USA goaltender Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) ended the night with 27 saves while Bloomington’s Mollot-Hill saved 23 shots.
