STEEL MAKING MOVES: Chicago is in a battle for first place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference race with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and has made a couple of moves over the last week. The Steel acquired goaltender Dayton Rasmussen from Tri-City in a three-way deal that saw goaltender Peter Thome and Alex Limoges moved to the Waterloo Black Hawks. Chicago also picked up veteran forward Jason O’Neill in exchange for affiliate forward Zach Risteau, as well as a 6th Round selection in the 2017 USHL Phase II Draft.

The U17s are 0-2 against the Steel this season while the U18s are 1-1.

PUSHING THE PHANTOMS: The U17s will travel to Youngstown on Saturday for a matchup with the Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. ET.

So far this season, the U17s are 1-2 against the Phantoms but won via a shutout, 1-0, in their last meeting at USA Hockey Arena on Jan. 7.

Youngstown currently sits in their place in the USHL's Eastern Conference standings with a record of 27-10-1-3 (W-L-OTL-SOL). They are three points behind Chicago and Dubuque for the top spot in the east.

Notes

U18S CLAIM 5 NATIONS TITLE: Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) scored a game-tying short-handed goal with three seconds remaining in regulation and then tallied two shootout goals in a 5-4 victory against Sweden to capture the 2017 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament Championship for the U.S. National Under-18 Team on Sunday afternoon at Sundsvall Energi Arena.

This marks the U.S. National Under-18 Team's second Five Nations Tournament championship during the 2016-17 season.

The U18s finished with a record of 3-1-0-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) to secure a tournament-clinching 11 points. Sweden finished second with a tournament total of nine points.

Norris led a balanced U18 attack in the tournament with three goals and four assists for seven points in four games, followed by Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn., 3-3-6), Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla., 3-3-6) and Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa., 1-5-6). Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich., 2.60 goals against, .893 save percentage, three wins) and Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio, one goal allowed, 33 saves in one win) both made appearances in net for the U18s.

U17S PLACE 2ND AT 5 NATIONS: The U.S. National Under-17 Team earned second place at the 2017 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, which finished on Sunday in Brno, Czech Republic.

Team USA finished 2-1-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) at this year’s event, which earned them eight points. With a victory in its final game on Sunday, Sweden also earned eight points and because of the head-to-head tiebreaker scenario, captured first place.

Oliver Wahlstorm (Quincy, Mass.) (two goals, two assists, four points in four games), Bode Wilde (Birmingham, Mich., 2-2-4) and Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhees, N.J., 1-3-4) led the U17s in scoring in the tournament. Goaltenders Ryan Ullan (Hibbing, Minn., 2.50 goals against average, .914 save percentage) and Keegan Karki (Sartell, Minn., 2.46, .886) played two games each in the tournament.

The U17s have now placed first, second and fifth in international tournaments during this season.

The disease killed his father, and his older brother, Luke, has the disease as well. Read the full story on Dowell here.

ALUMNI UPDATE: FRANKIE SIMONELLI: Frankie Simonelli (2008-10) is currently playing with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL. The four-year University of Wisconsin lettermen has appeared in games over the past three seasons with the Providence Bruins, South Carolina Stingrays, Bakersfield Condors and Admirals.
