Tortora Adds Goal, Assist in Loss

Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) scored one goal and assisted on another but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Bloomington Thunder, 3-2, here tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

At 15:52 of the opening period, Tortora slid a pass to Tyler Weiss (Raleigh, N.C.), who split two Bloomington defenseman and solved goaltender Gabriel Mollot-Hill stick-side.

The Thunder banged a shot off the pipes in the closing seconds of the first as the period closed at 1-0.

Bloomington's Sean Harrison evened the score 7:32 into the middle frame before Ethan Somoza gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead with 1:43 on the clock with a power-play attempt.

In the opening minute of the third stanza, Mitchell Mattson put away a rebound in the crease to extend Bloomington's cushion.

At 6:15 of the third period, Tortora converted on a loose puck at the left post to make it 3-2. Jonathan Gruden (Rochester, Mich.) and Ty Emberson (Eau Claire, Wis.) picked up assists on the goal.

Team USA pulled goaltender Ryan Ullan (Hibbing, Minn.), who finished with 31 saves, in the final two minutes but couldn't find the back of the net again.
