Under-17 Team Topped by Muskegon, 3-1

Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhees, N.J.) scored the lone goal for the U.S. National Under-17 Team as the U.S. fell to the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 3-1, tonight at L.C. Walker Arena.

The Lumberjacks got on the scoreboard halfway through the opening period with a goal from Marc Del Gaizo. Collin Adams converted on a penalty shot with 4:42 remaining in the stanza to put the U.S. down 2-0.

The score remained 2-0 until Samuelsson tallied at 8:51 of the third period. Erik Middendorf (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Jake Pivonka (Woodridge, Ill.) added assists on the play.

Muskegon scored a shorthanded empty-netter with :20 on the clock for the 3-1 final.
