Four different U.S. players scored and Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) made 20 stops as the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Madison Capitols, 4-1, here tonight at USA Hockey Arena.
Jordan Seyfert (Annville, Pa.) skated into Madison's zone, around a defenseman and backhanded the puck from the left side of the net to give the U.S. a 1-0 advantage at 15:54 of the first period. Just :28 later, Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) doubled Team USA's lead when he finished his own rebound from the top of the crease.
Midway through the second period at 9:44, Madison's Marshall Moise converted on a wraparound to bring the score to 2-1.
Tkachuk nearly got his second of the night five minutes into the third frame when he circled the Capitols zone and got a shot off through traffic, but his attempt was gloved by goaltender Dryden McKay.
At 10:34 of the final frame, Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) put in a backhanded shot from the slot to make it 3-1.
Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) jammed a loose puck less than three minutes later, his first goal of the season, to account for the 4-1 final.
