U18s Host Madison For Weekend Series

CAPSIZING THE CAPITOLS: The U.S. National Under-18 Team is scheduled to play the first two of its four-game slate with Madison this weekend. 

Team USA's last game against and USHL opponent came on Friday, Oct. 28 when they traveled to Youngstown, Ohio, to take on the Phantoms. The U18s came up short in a comeback attempt, falling 3-2. 

Madison currently sits five points ahead of the combined Team USA (U17s and U18s) in the USHL's Eastern Conference standings.

The Capitols have been outscored 30-21 by its opponents on the season but are coming off a 2-1 overtime victory against the USHL-leading Chicago Steel on Saturday (Nov. 5) night. 

Madison is led offensively by Eugene Fadyeyev (2-6-8) and Mick Messner (3-3-6).  Robby Fosdick has led the defense, appearing in all 11 games for the Capitols this season and recording a +2 plus/minus rating. 

Goaltenders Dryden McKay and Daniel Lebedeff have split duties in goal.  Mckay leads the duo in wins (3), goals-against average (2.21) and save-percentage (.933 in five appearances. Lebedeff most recently appeared for Team Finland at the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament last week (Nov. 1-5) at USA Hockey Arena where he recorded a 1-1 record with a .857 save-percentage.

5 NATIONS CHAMPIONS: The U.S. National Under-18 Team won the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament at USA Hockey Arena last week (Nov. 1-5) following victories over Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Sweden. 

Team USA finished with a record of 3-1 and earned nine points in the standings, two more than any other team in the tournament. The U.S. National Under-18 Team has now won nine of the last ten international events held each November.

The U18s capped the week with a 3-2 victory over Finland on Saturday evening. 

Sweden placed second in the tournament with seven points, the Czech Republic finished third (7), Finland finished fourth (6) and Switzerland finished fifth (2).

SIGNING DAY: On Wednesday (Nov. 9) nine members of the U18s signed their National Letter of Intents (NLI) to play collegiate hockey during the 2017-18 season. Wednesday marked the first day that an NLI could be signed and submitted for next season.

Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) and Tyler Inamoto (Barrington, Ill.) signed their NLIs to play for the University of Wisconsin.

Logan Hutsko (North Caldwell, N.J.) and Jacob Tortora signed their NLIs to play for Boston College.

Nate Knoepke (Farmington, Minn.) and Scott Reedy inked their NLIs to play for the University of Minnesota.

Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) signed his NLI to play for Penn State University, Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) signed his NLI to play for the University of North Dakota and Graham Slaggert inked his NLI to return home to South Bend, Indiana, to play for the University of Notre Dame.

REEDY HEATING UP: Scott Reedy currently sits tied for second on the team in points with 12  (5-7-12) and has recorded eight points (4-4-8) over his last five games. In his last outing,  he recorded the game-winning-goal and an assist  against Finland to secure Team USA's championship at the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament.

UNDER-17 WORLD HOCKEY CHALLENGE UPDATE: The U.S. National Under-17 team concluded its participation in the in the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey  Challenge yesterday afternoon with a victory over Canada Red. 

With the win, Team USA finished the tournament with a 2-1-0-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record for fifth place in the overall standings.
