Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) tallied his second and third goals of the season for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in their 5-4 overtime loss against Princeton University on Saturday evening at USA Hockey Arena.
With the loss, the U18s record now stands at 4-9-2 overall and 2-5-1 against NCAA opponents.
Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) opened the scoring for Team USA at the 6:27 mark of the first period when he took a feed from Reedy and deked around a defender at the right circle and went to his backhand to bury it past the outstretched Tigers goaltender. Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) also picked up an assist on the play.
Reedy tallied his first goal of the night at 14:31 of the first period when he deflected a point shot from David Farrance (Victory, N.Y.) through the five-hole of the Tigers goaltender. Josh Maniscalco (Perkiomenville, Pa.) picked up his second assist of the weekend after feeding Farrance.
Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.) extended the Team USA lead to three after interccepting a pass at the blue line and burying his second goal of the season with just 39 seconds remaining in the first period.
After the Tigers opened the scoring in the second period and cut the U18s lead to two, Reedy tallied his second goal of the night at the 10:23 mark. Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) and Barratt picked up assists on the play.
Princeton added three power play goals in the third period, including a late tally with only 12 seconds in regulation, to tie the game and force overtime.
Princeton defenseman Eric Robinson blasted a shot from the blue line that found the back of the net at the 2:31 mark of overtime to give the Tigers their first victory of the season.
Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) made 29 saves for Team USA.
Team USA will welcome Under-18 teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland on Nov. 1-5 at USA Hockey Arena for the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament.
