Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) forced overtime for Team USA with a late third period goal, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 2-1 at L.C. Walker Arena on Saturday night. This marks the first regular season United States Hockey League loss for the Under-18 team this year.
Following two scoreless periods of play, Muskegon opened the scoring at the 4:29 mark of the third period when Keegan Howdeshell tallied the game's opening goal.
Tortora forced overtime when he tied the game at the 16:43 mark of the third period. Logan Hutsko (North Caldwell, N.J.) and Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.) assisted on the game-tying goal.
Overtime only saw 1:14 of action before Scooter Brickley ended the game off a feed from Collin Adams.
Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) stopped 34 of the 36 shots on the evening, including shutting down seven Muskegon power-plays. His record is now 1-0-0-1 in USHL action and 2-1-0-1 overall.
The U18s will travel to South Bend, Indiana tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 2) for their first collegiate matchup of the season. They face the University of Notre Dame at Compton Family Ice Arena at 5:05 p.m. ET. The game broadcasted free of charge at ND.TV.
