Joseph Woll Stops 26-of-28 Phantom Shots in the Contest

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) stopped 26-of-28 shots but the U.S. National Under-18 Team was edged, 2-1, by the Youngstown Phantoms here this afternoon at USA Hockey Arena.

In a scoreless first period, the Under-18 Team controlled the majority of play, generating numerous quality-scoring chances. The U18s outshot Youngstown, 10-3, in the frame.

Youngstown opened scoring just 4:18 into the second stanza on the power play. Less than five minutes later, Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.), in the left offensive corner, fed a pass to Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.), rushing up the slot, for the game-tying marker.

In the final stanza, Youngstown potted the go-ahead goal on a shorthanded breakaway at 12:33. The U.S. kept the pressure on the Phantoms in the latter half of the third, looking for the equalizer and pulling Woll for the extra attacker. However, the gamble did not pay off and Team USA dropped a 2-1 decision.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team and the Youngstown Phantoms face off again Saturday (March 26) at the Covelli Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. EST, and the game will stream on FASTHockey.com.
