Grant Mismash Tallies Two Goals in Victory

PLYMOUTH, Mich. Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) notched two tallies and Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) stopped 29-of-31 shots faced, as the U.S. National Under-17 Team toppled the United States Hockey League's Omaha Lancers, 6-2, here today at USA Hockey Arena.

The game was scoreless until past the midway point of the first frame when Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) lit the lamp from the center of the right circle. St. Cyr kicked aside all seven Omaha shots in the session and the U.S carried a 1-0 advantage into the second.

In the middle stanza, the U.S. doubled its advantage 2:45 into the period when Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) fed the puck up the right wing, catching Mismash right out of the penalty box. Less than five minutes later, Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) sent a turnaround backhander over Omaha goaltender Zackarias Skog’s shoulder for the third U.S. marker.

On the power play, Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) deflected a Nate Knoepke (Farmington, Minn.) point shot to make it 4-0 in USA’s favor early in the third session. Almost three minutes later, Omaha found the back of the net, ending St. Cyr’s shutout bid. However, 21 seconds later, Mismash ripped a shot from the bottom of the left circle to extend USA's lead back to four tallies. The Lancers again came within three goals off a rebound score, but with more than three minutes left to play, Tortora sealed the victory, 6-2, with an empty-net goal.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action Friday (March 4) against the USHL's Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for the first of back-to-back meetings at USA Hockey Arena. The game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.
