Logan Cockerill Records Goal and Assist in Setback

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.) recorded two points (1-1) and the U.S. National Under-17 Team outshot the Muskegon Lumberjacks but Team USA ultimately fell, 5-2, here today at USA Hockey Arena.

Muskegon opened scoring with the lone goal of the first frame at 3:39. The two teams traded chances for the remainder of the stanza but neither team could convert, allowing Muskegon to carry a 1-0 advantage into the second.

During the middle session, Muskegon built a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes, scoring on a penalty shot. Just over a minute later, Joey Cassetti (Pleasanton, Calif.) fired a shot from the slot, and Cockerill stuffed the rebound into the net to put the U.S. on the board. Josh Maniscalco (Perkiomenville, Pa.) also picked up an assist on the play. Muskegon regained its two-goal advantage late in the frame.

In the final period, Muskegon found the back of the net on the power play near the four-minute mark for its fourth goal at 3:37. In the game’s final minutes, Tommy Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) shoved another rebound chance under Muskegon’s Joey Daccord for the second U.S. marker. However, Muskegon answered just 22 second laters with an empty-net goal for the 5-2 final score.

USA netminder Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) stopped 30-of-34 shots faced in the loss, while Muskegon’s Daccord turned aside 42 shots in the victory.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action on Thursday (Feb. 25) against the United State Hockey League’s Bloomington Thunder at USA Hockey Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. ET and will steam live on FASTHockey.com
