Josh Norris and Scott Reedy tally goals in the loss

PLYMOUTH, Mich.Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) and Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) each tallied a goal but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was edged, 3-2, by the North American Hockey League’s Team Central here tonight at USA Hockey Arena. The game was a part of the 2016 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament being held Feb. 15-16.

In the opening period, the Team Central struck first at 12:21. However, Team USA answered 34 seconds later when Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.), flying up the left wing, found Norris rushing into the slot for the equalizer.

Both teams traded chances throughout the second stanza, including another feed from Mismash to Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) that led to a quality scoring chance, and an odd-man, shorthanded rush opportunity from Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) and Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.), but the puck wouldn't end up in the net. USA goaltender Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) turned away all 11 Team Central shots in the frame to keep the game knotted, 1-1.

The U17s took the lead just 42 seconds into the third session when Reedy potted the go-ahead goal with help from linemates, Dhooghe and Tortora. Team Central scored back-to-back markers in the final seven minutes of the contest for the 3-2 victory.

U17 netminder Scheel stopped 21-of-23 shots in the third period for a total of 35 saves in the setback. Hunter Shepard and Kristofer Carlson combined to stop 29 shots in the win for Team Central.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team next faces the North American Hockey League Selects 5 p.m. tomorrow as the 2016 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament continues at USA Hockey Arena. The game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.
