RAUMA, Finland - Despite outshooting Russia, 42-20, the U.S. National Under-18 Team dropped a 3-0 decision to Russia here today at the 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament.
Russia opened the scoring at 12:16 of the first period on the power play. Team USA tested Vladislav Sukhachev 15 times in the frame but could not find the back of the net.
Two second-stanza tallies by the Russians, one scored with the man advantage, pushed the lead to three goals. The United States totaled 27 shots on Sukhachev in the second and third periods in an effort to close the gap, but the Russian netminder denied all chances and the U.S. fell, 3-0.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team looks to bounce back tomorrow (Feb. 12) when it faces Sweden. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. ET.
