Dhooghe and Mismash Tally Two Goals Each in Victory

PLYMOUTH, Mich.Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) and Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) each tallied two goals as the U.S. National Under-17 Team came from behind to defeat the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 6-4, here tonight at USA Hockey Arena. Team USA scored four straight markers in the third to earn the victory.

Muskegon struck first at 10:28 of the opening frame. Less than five minutes later, Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) corralled the puck, blew past two Muskegon players and lasered a shot from the mid-right faceoff circle to knot the score, 1-1.

Team USA staked the lead early in the second stanza when Tortora flipped a backhand pass to Dhooghe in the left faceoff circle. Dhooghe placed his shot in the top corner over Lumberjacks goalie Joey Daccord for the go-ahead goal. Back-to-back goals by Muskegon closed the middle period and sent the U.S. to the locker room down, 3-2.

Muskegon doubled its advantage, 4-2, in the opening 2:08 of the third period, but USA climbed back within a goal when Mismash poked Scott Reedy’s (Prior Lake, Minn) initial shot past Daccord. Just a 1:18 later, Logan Cockerill (Brighton, Mich.) threw the puck in front of the Muskegon net, and Randy Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) tapped the puck in for the fourth USA goal. Mismash picked up his second tally of the night, the eventual game winner, with just 2:27 on the clock. Dhooghe potted the empty-net insurance goal in the final minute for the 6-4 final score.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action tomorrow night (Jan. 16) against the Bloomington Thunder. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. ET, and the game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.
