The U.S. National Under-17 Team plays a pair of United States Hockey League foes at USA Hockey Arena this weekend while the Under-18 Team hits the road for two contests before returning home for a Monday afternoon matinee.
USHL FOES: The U17s return home to face the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 7 p.m. Friday before hosting the Bloomington Thunder at 7 p.m. Saturday. On Monday, the squad heads to Muskegon for a rematch at 12:15 p.m.
“We are excited to return home and play two tough USHL opponents,” U17 coach Don Granato said. “We are still playing shorthanded right now, but I’ve been very proud of our players’ efforts. They continue to compete day in and day out.”
The U17s dropped a pair of road games over the weekend, falling 6-4 at Des Moines on Friday and 5-0 at Cedar Rapids on Saturday.
Nate Knoepke (Farmington, Minn.), Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.), Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) scored at Des Moines. Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) and Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) combined for 30 saves. Scheel turned aside 32 shots in the loss at Cedar Rapids.
TO WATERLOO: The U18s face the Waterloo Blackhawks on Friday and Saturday before coming home to host the Youngstown Phantoms at 2 p.m. on Monday.
The U18s beat Sioux Falls 3-1 on Friday before falling 4-1 at the University of North Dakota on Saturday.
Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) scored two goals while James Sanchez (Northbrook, Ill.) had the other in the win over Sioux Falls. Goalie Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.) had 22 stops. Sanchez scored the lone goal while Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) and Woll combined for 22 saves at UND.
