Defenseman Scores Four Goals in Victory

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) scored four goals as the U.S. National Under-17 Team downed the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 7-4, here this afternoon at USA Hockey Arena. It was the most goals scored within United States Hockey League and North American Hockey League play for a NTDP skater since Peter Mueller (3/18/05 vs. Toledo) and James van Riemsdyk (10/21/06 vs. Mahoning Valley) accomplished the feat.

Muskegon built a 3-0 advantage that included two power-play markers in the second half of the first frame.

The Under-17 Team got on the board at 3:12 of middle stanza when Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) fed Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) from behind the Muskegon net for an easy goal. Less than two minutes later, Muskegon responded to regain its three-goal lead.

Team USA answered by rattling off three straight tallies, tying the contest, 4-4, after two periods of action. First, Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fla.), trailing the rush, sniped a Reedy rebound top left corner, making it 4-2. In the latter half of the period, Hughes netted his second of the contest and Reedy scored the fourth U.S. goal, pulling USA even with Muskegon entering the third.

In the final frame, Hughes potted two more goals, one just under the two-minute mark and another at 13:56 on the power play. Then, with a minute left on the clock, Mismash snapped an empty netter to ice the game for the Under-17 Team.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team next travels to Dubuque, Iowa for two games on Jan. 1-2, 2016, at the Mystique Ice Center. The game will be streamed live through FASTHockey.com.
