U18s Idle Until Dec. 29 Matchup with Chicago

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) tallied the lone USA goal as the U.S. National Under-18 Team was downed by the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 5-1, here tonight at USA Hockey Arena. The loss capped a weekend mini-series between the two United States Hockey League rivals in which Dubuque took both games.

The first frame remained scoreless until Dubuque found the board at 9:01 when a deflected shot beat Team USA netminder Joseph Woll (St. Louis, Mo.). The teams continued to trade scoring chances, and hits, but it was again Dubuque, on the power play, who found the back of the net in the final 1:19.

In the second period, the Fighting Saints scored three goals, including a power-play tally with 11 seconds remaining on the clock, for a 5-0 lead.

USA’s lone goal came at 7:03 of the third period when Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) fed Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) near the left-wing boards. Bellows skated to the top of the slot and snapped a shot, which ricocheted off the glass behind the net and came right to Anderson. Standing to the left of the Dubuque net, Anderson batted the puck in for the 5-1 final score.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team is off until Dec. 29 when they face the Chicago Steel at USA Hockey Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
