Lindgren Scores Twice in Setback

PLYMOUTH, MICH - Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) potted two goals in the contest and the U.S. National Under-18 Team put 21 shots on goal in the third, but the comeback bid fell short as the Dubuque Fighting Saints clipped Team USA, 4-3, tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

In the opening period, USA struck first at 3:41 when Lindgren launched a shot from the top of the slot on a pass from J.D. Greenway (Potsdam, N.Y.). Dubuque notched the equalizer with three minutes left and the teams entered intermission knotted at one goal apiece.

Dubuque took the lead just 21 seconds into the second stanza. The U18s had chances throughout the period in an attempt to tie the score, but it was the Fighting Saints who again found the back of the net with 20.7 seconds left to go up 3-1 over the U.S.

With under three minutes into the final frame Keenan Suthers (Macomb, Mich.) fed Nick Pastujov (Brandeton, Fla.) from behind the Dubuque net. Pastujov lit the lamp from the bottom right circle to pull the USA back within a goal. Seconds into a USA power play, Dubuque scored shorthanded to regain its two-goal advantage. Lindgren netted his second of the night, rushing end-to-end, to pull the U18s back within a goal. Down, 4-3, the U18s pulled goaltender Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) late in the period in favor of the extra man and nearly notched the equalizer but ultimately fell short.

The U.S National Under-18 Team and the Dubuque Fighting Saints are back in action tomorrow (Dec.19) for the second of back-to-back meetings. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. at USA Hockey Arena, and the game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.
