Line of Anderson / Bellows / Keller Accounts for 14 Points in Win

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) tallied two goals and added one assist and his linemates, Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill./1-5), and Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn./1-4), combined for 11 points to help the U.S. National Under-18 Team top the Sioux City Musketeers, 7-4, tonight at USA Hockey Arena. The trio combined for 14 total points in the contest.

In the first period, Sioux City opened the scoring just 1:11 into the frame on the power play. Then on the penalty kill, Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) stole the puck in the defensive zone, rushed up the left wing and potted the equalizer. Sioux City regained the lead at 5:12 of the frame on a power-play opportunity. Luke Martin (St. Louis, Mo.) ripped a shot from near the top of the right circle to close the period in a 2-2 tie.

Sioux City found the back of the net at 3:14 of the second stanza to again regain the lead. Almost halfway through the period, Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) made a cross-slot pass to Keller at the bottom of the left circle; Keller slid a shot through the crease behind the goaltender and Anderson chipped in the puck to knot the game at three. With just over two minutes left in the middle period, Bellows fired a shot from the top of the slot for the go-ahead goal and to end the period 4-3 in USA’s favor.

Anderson tallied his second goal of the night just over three minutes into the final frame from the middle of the left circle. At 8:29, Sioux City netted their fourth of the game to pull back within a goal. Less than two minutes later, Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) fired a point shot to put the Under-18 Team back up by two. Sioux City pulled their goaltender with two minutes left in the game, allowing Keller to pot an empty-net goal with 27 seconds on the clock for the 7-4 final score.

The U.S National Under-18 Team returns to NCAA action Saturday (Dec. 12) against the Division I Princeton University Tigers at Baker Rink in New Jersey. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
