St. Cyr Stops 40 Shots in 3-2 Loss to Bloomington

Reedy and Tortora Each Net One Goal in Setback


PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Goaltender Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) stopped 40 total shots but the U.S. National Under-17 team fell, 3-2, to the Bloomington Thunder tonight at USA Hockey Arena. 

Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) opened the scoring just 2:19 into the first period, netting a rebound shot from Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) from the bottom right circle. Bloomington came back and notched a power-play equalizer with just 3:43 left in the frame. With 25 seconds left on the clock, Bloomington chipped in their second goal of the night to end the period with a 2-1 lead.

In the middle stanza, the U17s and Bloomington traded chances and ramped up the physicality, but neither team was able to convert. St. Cyr kicked out all 14 attempts against to keep the U.S. within striking distance.

Bloomington increased its lead by two goals at 12:56 of the third period. Less than five minutes later, Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) potted another USA goal, pulling his team back within a goal, when he redirected a pass from Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) with just 2:19 left in the period. In the final minute of play, USA pulled St. Cyr and ended up with a six-on-four advantage when Bloomington was whistled for a slashing penalty. Team USA was not able to convert in the final minute, making the final score, 3-2.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action on Saturday (Dec. 5) against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at L.C. Walker Arena. The contest features a team poster giveaway with post-game autograph session. Puck drop is slated for 7:15 p.m. ET and the game will stream live on FASTHockey.com.
