Oettinger Turns Aside All 20 Shots Faced in Victory

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) turned aside all 20 shots he faced and Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) recorded two points (1-1), as the U.S. National Under-18 Team blanked the Youngstown Phantoms, 3-0, here tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

Team USA opened the scoring at 8:11 of the first period when Keller skated up the left wing and flung a pass back to Luke Martin (St. Louis, Mo.) who lit the lamp from the top of the right circle. The U.S. continued to control play throughout the frame, nearly doubling its lead when Will Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was left alone at the net front for an easy shot, but Colin DeAugustine snagged the shot, glove hand, to hold the Under-18 Team lead at one.

In the second stanza, Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) led a power-play breakout, passing to Keller on the left wing. Entering the Youngstown zone, he zipped a pass to Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.), who returned it to Keller, driving the net, for a redirection goal and the 2-0 lead. Just under four minutes in the period, Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) and two Youngstown players battled in the right corner, the puck squirted free for Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) at the net side and he chipped the puck over DeAugustine’s pad for the third USA goal, a Youngstown goaltending change and the 3-0 final score.

In a scoreless third period, the Under-18 Team continued to dominate play and generate quality-scoring chances and Oettinger closed the shutout by making seven saves on seven attempts by Youngstown.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team heads back to NCAA Division I action tomorrow (Nov. 14) against Niagara University. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. ET. The game will stream on FASTHockey.com.
