Trent Frederic Scores Game Winner Late in Middle Frame

MONTHEY, Switzerland - Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) capped a three-goal second period as the U.S. National Under-18 Team clipped Sweden, 4-3, here tonight at Patinoire de Monthey. With the win, the United States improves to 2-0 at the 2015 Five Nations Tournament.

Sweden tallied the first marker of the contest midway through the opening period. The United States responded at 15:03 when Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) found the back of the net. Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) and Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) assisted on the game-tying goal. Back-to-back U.S. penalties led to a 5-on-3 power play for Sweden and the Swedes converted to regain the lead.

Kieffer Bellows (Edina, Minn.) scored early in the second stanza to knot the game, 2-2. Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) earned an assist on the play. The back-and-forth action continued as Sweden scored shorthanded, but Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.) tallied a power-play marker just before time expired on the man advantage to keep the contest even. Fox and Lindgren collected helpers on the goal. Skating four aside, the U.S. took its first lead with 32 seconds remaining in the period off the stick of Frederic. Luke Martin (St. Louis, Mo.) registered an assist on the play.
