Barratt Scores Lone Goal for U17s in Setback

PLYMOUTH, Mich.Evan Barratt (Bristol, Pa.) netted the lone goal as the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped its first game at USA Hockey Arena, 8-1, to the Madison Capitols.

In the opening period, the U.S. and Madison traded chances, and Madison’s best chance came about eight minutes into the period when Ryan Lohin picked up a pass as he exited the penalty box. Team USA goaltender Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.) stood tall, stopping the shot. However, less than two minutes later, the U17s got caught up ice, and Madison picked up the first of back-to-back goals on a two-on-one rush. St. Cyr made the initial save but Madison chipped in the rebound. Twenty seconds later, the Capitols picked up their second goal and then capped period scoring with a power-play tally at 16:25 of the frame.

Madison increased their lead with power-play and even-strength markers in the second period. USA had its own chances, including a shot off the crossbar from Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) but could not find the back of the net.

In the third frame, Madison added two more goals for a 7-0 lead in the opening five minutes. On a power play, Graham Slaggert (South Bend, Ind.) snapped a shot from the top of the right circle, and Barratt picked up the rebound for Team USA’s only goal of the game at 7:37. Madison notched one more marker at 16:22 of the period for the 8-1 final score.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will face the Madison Capitols in United States Hockey League action again tomorrow. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. at USA Hockey Arena.
