Khodorenko Extends Point Streak but U17s Fall to Youngstown, 3-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Patrick Khodorenko (Walnut Creek, Calif.) extended his point streak to nine games with a goal and goaltender Corbin Kaczperski (China Township, Mich.) made 29 saves, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was knocked off by the Youngstown Phantoms, 3-1, here tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

Youngstown scored once in each of the first two periods to build a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. The Phantoms' first goal came 7:04 into the opening frame on the power play, and they doubled their lead with a well-placed shot from the left circle at 9:33 of the middle stanza.

Khodorenko pulled Team USA back to within a goal 1:32 into the third period when he collected his own rebound and scored from the edge of the crease. After Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) chipped a puck down the wall, Keenan Suthers (Macomb, Mich.) sent a centering pass to Khodorenko in the left circle. Khodorenko's first attempt was stopped, but he beat the Youngstown defender to the loose puck and batted it home for his 12th goal of the season. The Phantoms scored 90 seconds later to close the scoring.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team closes the books on its 2014-15 season when it travels to Youngstown, Ohio to play the Phantoms tomorrow night (April 11). Opening face off is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game can be viewed live at FASTHockey.com.

Team USA and Youngstown each had 31 shots ... The U.S. went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Phantoms scored once in two tries with the man advantage ... Patrick Khodorenko notched a goal in his third-straight contest and now has five goals in the past three games. His nine-game point streak (7-5) dates back to March 13 ... Adam Fox registered one assist in back-to-back games ... Corbin Kaczperski was called up from the Belle Tire midget major program of the Tier I Elite Hockey League ... The game marked the final contest for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, its home for 18 years. Team USA will move to Plymouth, Michigan, for the 2015-16 season to play at USA Hockey Arena.
