Back-to-Back PPGs in Third Not Enough to Cap Comeback Bid.

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - Patrick Khodorenko (Walnut Creek, Calif.) netted two goals, including one of two late power-play tallies for Team USA, but it wasn't enough as the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Chicago Steel here tonight at The Edge Ice Arena.

Chicago came out firing and lit the lamp just 1:37 into the opening frame.

A shorthanded strike by the Steel in the second stanza put the U.S. in a 2-0 hole before Khodorenko gave Team USA life. Grant Gabriele (Brighton, Mich.) and Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) assisted on Khodorenko's goal notched at 13:20.

A penalty-filled third period saw two goals scored by each squad, three on the man advantage. The Steel regained its two-goal lead at 3:13 and went up 4-1 midway through the frame with its special-teams tally. United States defensemen Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Luke Martin (St. Louis) helped set up Khodorenko for his second marker on the night and first on the power play. Max Jones (Rochester, Mich.) pulled the U.S. to within one goal, 4-3, with just over two minutes remaining in the contest. Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) picked up the assist.

Netminder Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) was pulled in favor of the extra attacker in the closing moments of the game, but Team USA couldn't find the equalizer. Woll made 34 saves in the effort for the Under-17 Team.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team closes out the 2014-15 regular season with a home-and-home series against the Youngstown Phantoms. Team USA hosts first on Friday, April 10, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. ET and can be seen live on FASTHockey.com.
